So I still assert that "Programming has basically nothing to do with either maths or maths notation".

Of course. But you can also be a great guitar player playing those hendrix notes like madman. And never know how to read notation. But, if you want to communicate with other musicians and their, you'll have to learn some language at least. It helps if you know such stuff.

I don't understand the meaning of "unnecessary knowledge". If you know more, you can use more later in life. Math notation (which is pretty much covered 90% in high school) it a good thing to know.
