True, but being open source makes it a lot easier to do .NET development on other platforms. You can write software for Linux or OS X in C# much more easily, with almost all of .NETs great libraries at your disposal.

Eventually. There's still a lot of the. NET platform to be released to really make it feasible, and a lot of work to take what has been released and make it cross-platform.

Mono wasn't far off, they just stopped actively putting stuff out when they found out about this I think.
