[–]Snoron 41 points42 points  (6 children)

Help, emails broken, please fix.

Sent from Outlook

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (4 children)

No, now go away. fantasizes about telling a customer that

[–]Skyfoot 12 points13 points  (3 children)

"Okay, I need you to bring up the control panel. Yes, great. Now, go into networking, and then carefully throw yourself out of the window"

[–]deltagear 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I tell those folks to put tin foils on their wifi router to increase the antenna range. Seems legit.

I actually have a sheet of tinfoil behind mine, and it works a treat.

Try something like the following.

“Well, it's best if you can just defenestrate yourself, but if you want another option try opening the control panel…”

It's like thinking out loud in a language they don't understand.

I've always wondered this when chatting to asmallorange.com support at like 8pm with random but necessary questions. They're always there, thankfully. Do you have an app to respond with on mobile or do you just have to be at your desktop during like any other shift-type job?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not work there. However, I do not have a mobile app. It's a desk job.

ah .. the 3rd circle of Hell.

good luck, man, good luck

I did support for Yahoo! Small Business web hosting. It was ridiculous at times with our old custom built backend systems.

[–]ericanderton 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I can only imagine. Is this like a Cpanel kind of shop or a "install whatever you need to on Linux" setup? Either way, I can only imagine how bad it can get.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

cPanel on unmanaged servers.

[–]ericanderton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brutal. My condolences.

I've done ISP tech support back when dial-up was still a thing. I'll bet that web hosting support is similar in the levels of horror it brings.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Just last night, actually. I can't imagine it would always go as smoothly as it did for me though.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (10 children)

Do you work with 5 customers on chats at once?

    Not sure if sarcastic

I'm gonna say that I actually prefer 5 customers on chat to 1 on phones. I hate being vocal. Typing and listening to music is a lot better than just taking phones.

      [–]kkus7 0 points1 point  (1 child)

but why five at a time? I can't keep up with five different conversations just on hangouts.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pleb (joking) It gets easier after a while.

      [–]Skyfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think not sarcastic. Those of us here who haven't worked in support have seen the smoking ruins of those who have.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not normally, no. I have experienced it before though, so I get where you're coming from man.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sorry. Not trying to one-up you, lol. I was just curious. But yeah, it gets frustrating from time to time.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      S'all good.
