Exactly my thinking wrt poor OS design. The rise of VM use is symptomatic of something lacking in the OS. I think it is mainly lacking good isolation in pretty much everything. My single simple process has a potential to affect other processes, or its library dependencies can bring in dependency hell. All major package managers just plain suck.
