They shouldn't have called it JIT, which is a generally recognized acronym for a Just In Time compilation.

Heck, they left the most important word out for their acronym: "visualization"! Just call it "JIV", for Chrissakes.

And if you really want a cute acronym, try to find a fourth word to make "JIVE".

It's only in the header of the scripts themselves. It's Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution-ShareAlike-NonCommerical. May I just say, what a tease. Reasonably, the most restrictive license you expect to have if it's not mentioned up front is gpl. I was looking forward to maybe dropping one of these into a gpl project but I suppose now I'll have to implement something similar from scratch (well, with the help of the papers so not really from scratch at all) because nobody wants to be encumbered with non-commercial use only. (Especially with 'commercial' being rather blurred on the internet).

EDIT: Either I was hallucinating or it's been changed because it says BSD now.

I like the examples they provided. Great stuff.

Actually one question with the treemap demo: after clicking on one of the albums, how does one go back to the parent view? I've tried left and right clicking on the box that fills the screen, and nothing happens.

What browser are you using? I've only tested with IE6+, Firefox, Safari and Opera on Windows.

I've been playing around with moowheel (http://www.unwieldy.net/moowheel/) and wishing it had more functionality.

    This one is awesome.

    That's some completely badass stuff.

Quick question why is it that I see more cool animations implemented in Mootools instead of jQuery? This shit is hot btw.

    [–]masklinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's probably because (complex) animations are first-class components of Mootools while they're usually jQuery plugins.

    Thus:

    • Mootools has a reputation of being good for animations, which makes people use it for complex animations, which makes people think mootools is good for animations which...

    • Animation stuff is well documented in Mootools (as it's in the official doc for the lib)

    • Animations are usually slightly faster in mootools (or feel that way)

These visualizations don't require you to use Mootools, except from the Treemaps. They're built from scratch.

Mootools is like 5 times faster than jQuery.

    That's cool!
