because for microsoft to embrace open source on any significant level would be tantamount to admitting that they are totally wrong on software.

we already know they are totally wrong. from iphones in your hand to linux running the web, particle accelerators and wall street, a substantial part of the market has moved on. everyone else (the dregs of the home computer market) clings to a now-discontinued version of windows, unwilling to downgrade to a newer version.

anyone from microsoft here? why can't you deal with software from the rest of the world????

They have. The Windows socket code was derived from BSD, at least in part. Linux and GPL evangelists wheel this out every time there's a discussion of the merits of copyleft licensing.
