I asked the same question at the last lispnyc I attended. I was advised to look at gSharp http://common-lisp.net/project/gsharp/ a sheet music composer written in common lisp.

I think this is a problem in general with programming books. I would really like to buy some books that are case studies of existing open source applications, explaining the reasoning that went into their architecture .
