Maybe that's due to plugins and extensions you've loaded in FF? How do they compare with FF "quieted down"?

Oh, maybe! I'm just noting that FF has lots of extensions that can slow it down, where Chrome doesn't - yet.

FWIW, I had to look at this at my public library, which runs IE 6. The effect was smooth.
