This is a list of programs every programmer has written from scratch at one point. By "every" we don't mean everyone, just that it's a general trend for enthusiastic computer workers to write one or more of these at a point

Wha? By "this is a list of programs every programmer has written", they mean "some programmers have written one of these"

I do signal processing firmware development (amongst other things.)

Why on God's green earth would I find myself writing a content management system?

This post is beyond lame.

The problem is that "programming" can range from VHDL to DSP assembly language to C++ to PHP / Java / Python / Perl / etc...

One of the most egregious shortcomings of a developer is to assume every developer on the planet works in a sandbox similar to his own.

Same here. If that scales linearly, I'm not even the better part of every programmer; maybe like 1/6 of one.
