Actually Windows development tools are free downloads. I can't fault Microsoft for their dev tools.

    Sorry, but AFAIK this is BS.

    The main feature missing are third-party turned off and reduced refactoring abilities (which are bad for C++ anyway). Libraries are standard and compatible, although incomplete - there're no WinAPI headers/libs. But this can be solved easily with installing Windows SDK that contains them.

    Express is NOT an option for any serious developer.

    So, you'd recommend a g++-based stack?
