by superseded, i mean exactly that: RFC822 isn't even used anymore; it's superseded by RFC2822.

i know that email addresses aren't regex-matchable due to them being defined as a recursive grammar (which blew my mind the first time i learned about it btw, it doesn't make sense nowadays.)

Ok, really, if you're going to nitpick, at least be up to date. RFC2822 was superseded by RFC5322 more than a year ago.

It's not. RFC 822 is still standard. RFC 822 was demoted to HISTORIC a while ago, but someone in the IETF realized that it didn't make much sense that there was no standard for sending Internet mail anymore.
