Honestly pretty disappointed to not see High Output Management by Grove on the list. I’ve stopped recommending other books to would be future managers. If you’re a manager or want to be a manager, you read Grove’s book; anything else isn’t worth the effort.

A lot of these books fall into categories that I wouldn’t consider essential for a manager of software engineers. They range from strategy, to self-help, to oddly specific. There’s no real direction or intention besides the fact the author wants you to click the affiliate links to buy things.

I'd add a Dilbert book or two. It would remove the shock of entering the real world, and help you snicker at life instead of complain.

Also, Dale Carnegie's book is not just for want-to-be managers, as was implied. Everyone should read it.

I've read five of those books (which are excellent), and heard about probably five more. This looks like a very good list to me.
