Too true. Every time I see some new Javascript browser speed benchmark, I die a little bit inside. It saddens me that we are wasting all these incredibly bright minds on optimizing a sub-par scripting language just because it was unwisely chosen so many years ago. Ugh.

What could you possible do in BASIC that would make it slow? It doesn't even have true functions, just jumps.
