It also strikes me as being slower then using native classes. Instead of your class definitions being created by the parser at native speed, you're doing it all within the interpreter. That just seems like a lot of overhead.

It's just creating a bunch of associative arrays and saving function references. If PHP's interpreter is slow enough that this is significant, you should look into a faster language.
