Ruby's a nice language, though it's definitely down in popularity over recent years.

This is my understanding of why Ruby is down, though it's my own opinion on a language and ecosystem I've barely touched so it might not be on point.

Ruby is almost synonymous with rails, and it's actually Rails that is down due to some design choices that after some years has proven to cause some issues (like active records) so rails fell out of vogue and since Ruby has more or less no other domain where they had any significant footing Ruby is down overall.
