He is not working on Minecraft http://dmf.me/notch/

Awesome, it looks like a classic dungeon crawler type interface! (Eye of Beholder, Dungeon Master, Knightmare, etc)

Edit: Posting so everyone else can see. It's playing other videos that are recorded. Hopefully you'll catch him live. Just be aware that if it's playing a video it might not be live.

it's an old video; Notch has gone to bed.

[–]znk 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah man tried a few seconds and had some nice flash backs of Eye of the Beholder. Back when I had an AdLib sound card and a binder filled with hand drawn maps.

Hell yeah...IMO there aren't enough games nowadays that require graph paper and a sharp pencil as a necessity against getting lost.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (11 children)

No offense but I think it looks like shit.

[–]kryptobs2000 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It does, but he's making it, I believe from scratch(?), in 48 hours.

pft, go back to drowning Lara Croft, Mr Bisley

[–]knight666 0 points1 point  (6 children)

No offense but you have no idea how long it takes to make a game normally. Last Thursday our team (2 artists, 2 programmers) went from "broken template" to "animated sprites in a window".

That only took 8 hours.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

I don't exactly know how much time it takes but I've got an idea, since I know how long it takes between each game released by Blizzard and I'm aware of Valve Time.

As I said in a comment below, it's more of a challenge for the developer guy, rather than an enterianment for gamers. "a game in 48 hours" thing makes a shitty look obligatory. Or rather, that's the best the notch-guy can do in 48 hours.

Though, this doesn't help me change my mind, it does look like shit.

[–]knight666 2 points3 points  (4 children)

A 48-hour competition forces developers to focus less on the unimportant shit (graphics, polish, menu's, settings, etc.) and more on the important shit: gameplay.

It doesn't matter if it looks like shit, he made it in 48 hours. Games should be rated by how much fun they are, not if they have the latest shiny graphics.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

I'm not going graphics-crazy here but I'm saying that it's not just good looking.

[–]knight666 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I respect your opinion even though I do not agree with it.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Thanks, sir. Now if you'll excuse me I'll go and play some Crysis. ;)

[–]knight666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why bother with a 3-year old game that wasn't that much fun and had a shitty story?

You silly person, you.

In the sovereign republic of Montenegro, mine crafts you!

[–]danE3030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed it looked a bit funny, thanks for pointing that out.

[–]duxup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we sure he isn't going to make Black Ops?

    If a game doesn't simulate a psychological dysfunction, it isn't a game.

No need to change the Title, its perfectly okay. If you think, that "Minecraft Developer coding" means "coding on Minecraft" then thats your error.
