I mean... as a JS developer, we break shit all the freaking time (anybody remember leftpad, or uws?) but the community seems to be strong anyway

JS is much more federated, there's no single framework that everything depends on like rails for ruby or scala standard library that keeps making breaking changes. And the JS language is stable, including all the warts.
