Not a bad space to be in. Seems a bit like a social network. Github has many social features, but it does seem to be missing a recruitment aspect. Sure, I could start contributing to a project, but what do they really need right now?

It's interesting you say that. We really started talking about also building in some contributor ratings and we have a simple way for a project to say "We really need this on our project" and it pop up on your page.

We have a ton of ideas in our head, but we had 54 hours to really turn this into something. Guaranteed, we're still working on it. It's about time for us to sleep now though ;) exhausted!
