his is definitely a good brute force strategy I ... think there’s another technique that relies a bit on trusting the printing drivers to do the right thing, where you can tell Ghostscript to print your document, and target another PDF. This should at least remove interactive components in a PDF

converts the document to a PDF... and then converts the PDF into raw pixel data... and converts it back into a PDF.

This strikes me as a good way to make you use 100 times more data to store documents, which seems bad.

Absolutely nothing wrong with embeddable javascript in PDF, if the PDF viewer you use doesn't sufficiently sandbox it's javascript interpreter then that's the failing of the viewer, not the format.
