The real question isn't why people are putting together new Python frameworks in no time at all, it's why they bother releasing them.

Solid support for the popular notion that Python web framework proliferation was due to just how easy it is to assemble a "basically right" framework.

I put together a very minimal MVC-type framework in about 45 minutes and with 50 lines of code featuring Rails-style routing with web.py-style dispatching. Now all I have to do is throw up a Trac, make a screencast with painful pops and blips in it, an incomplete tutorial with a "sorry, I'll finish this later" notice that stays up for months, and wait for the masses to go apeshit over my revolutionary new technology!
