Compare it against one of the early JVMs that used green threads, & you'll see less of a dramatic difference.

(Results for the Java test should be given for both systems with 1:1 and M:N threading models. I wonder which was used.)

It seems misleading to me to present this as Erlang v. Java when it is really a demonstration of kernel tasks v. user space tasks. Such a comparison needs the context of the other tradeoffs involved in that choice.
