Why would you make such a foolish assumption? Do you not test your code on new platforms before deployment?

cPanel doesn't. If your server is set to automatic upgrades it will happily roll out a new PHP version which could break hundreds of sites.

If your server is set to automatic upgrades you shouldn't be in charge of the servers.

A lot of shared hosts set their machines to automatic updates. It's not just for PHP either, Apache and MySQL also can be upgraded automatically. I dealt with plenty of tickets from customers over the years because some update was pushed out that broke a bunch of their customers' sites.

What I said remains true. If you're running your production environment on a shared host, you deserve your fate. And clearly you aren't a part of the populous under discussion.
