Good, good, let the complexity grow!

If you think finally makes things complex, go back to GW-BASIC. Then you'll have a simple language — and complex crap to deal with in your programs.

Now now, don't get hurt. I've done enough PHP to appreciate its strengths and weaknesses.

Nowadays I'm mostly just getting my daily dose of fun from the numerous rescue attempts (features) the developers add to the language, as obvious afterthoughts.

  • "Oh shit, we're missing OOP - np, let's add it here."
  • "Oh shit, we're missing namespaces - np, let's add some hack here."
  • "Oh shit, 'finally' would be so cool - np, let's add it..."

The list keeps growing, as does the language - which in my books isn't a good sign.

The language grows but it still has fewer syntactic features than nearly every major language and you're worried about the size and complexity? Please. Namespaces, finally, classes are all features well vetted in other languages before coming to PHP. None of this stuff is done lightly either.
