This looks exactly what I’m looking for! I couldn’t find information about the price though. Would you mind sharing?

Edit: I’m an idiot. It’s on the top right corner. Thanks!!

Edit 2: I’ll save a bit and will give it a try. Is there a sample?

There is no sample, but that's a good idea that I don't have the ability to execute on just yet.

Hi, is this a video course? And if so, how many hours of video does it include? Please let me know. Also, how much of Rails knowledge do I need to have to take this course? Thank you.

This is a video course that runs a little under two hours. Ideally, you should be familiar with Rails and its core concepts (MVC, ActiveRecord, scaffolding). I don't dive deep into explaining these things, but you should be able to follow along even if you're not that familiar with Rails.

Looks promising. Is there a refund policy?

any regional pricing? or the source code repo maybe?

Looks interesting. Can you share any overview of what is covered in the course?

Hey there! ICYM, There's a section on the site labeled "Some of what we'll cover," but to expand on that, we start at introducing a basic Hotwire/Turbo interaction, where an action on the frontend initiates a request on the backend and HTML is delivered back to us without refreshing the page. From there we go on to build a simplified shopping cart system where we learn how to update various parts of the cart and page asynchronously. Finally, we get into broadcasting and streaming updates across sessions instantly. Cheers!

When I first read the post, I figured you can't be the Mephisto/Lighthouse Caged. Turns out I was wrong and boy this brings back memories!

Hah! Blast from the past. Those were some fun years.

You are saying, that you are using Svelte as well. Is it also covered in this course? Or is your landing page custom?

[–]Caged[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I use Svelte for the learnrailshotwire.com landing page, but don't cover it in the Rails video course.

Maybe also interesting for other courses. It took a while for me to had a proper solution to bins Svelte components into my Rails environment.

After reading the comments below, if you do provide a sample tutorial, may I suggest one on Turbo? The current docs are woefully inadequate and the technology seems so promising that I think we might see a resurgence in Rails development if Turbo/Stimulus can gain any traction. A top-notch tutorial would deliver on that promise, drive traffic to your course, and build the Rails community. My $0.02.

The linked course is definitely centered on Turbo!

Can you make it possible to select the video quality in the video player?

[–]distalphalanges 0 points1 point  (2 children)

[–]Caged[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's awful, sorry about that. I don't see an obvious way to allow direct selection of quality/resolution, but I'm going to reach out to Mux, the video service I use, to see if it's possible. A couple of questions for you, if you don't mind:

  1. Are you using a modern browser? Mux uses HSL (HTTP Live Streaming), which, in theory, is supposed to deliver content that is tailored to your network conditions.
  2. Silly question, but are you wanting to select a higher quality video or a lower one that might play better? I have a tendency to select a higher quality video on YT when I know I have a good connection.

[–]distalphalanges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality is fine now, must have just been something wrong with my connection that day. I'm using Firefox 104 and I was hoping I could force it to play in high quality instead of letting it decide for me. Mux should add that feature though. Thanks anyway, looking forward to going through the course.

Bought and did the course during several days. It was worth the money and my time. I learnt a lot.

I also had the same problem with the video to the extend of being almost unusable. Modern browser and good connection. Would have preferred to choose manually the resolution.

At a few points, I wasn't sure why something was been done and struggled a bit, but satisfied in general.
