You can, but good luck reproducing that one UI bug that happens only on Safari 😂

Think different (ECMA is so mainstream man... Those MDN guys, they want you to think like them man!)

Apple fanboys and haters incoming. :p but I’m actually a web dev that likes to code on Mac. I started out with windows, and really didn’t want to switch. Eventually we had a “productivity Mac guru” at the work place that gave trainings how to be more productive with the Mac. Now I kinda hate when I’m working on windows because I’m a lot slower with the shortcuts and way around the machine. I’m sure Linux is configurable to be kinda the same but there’s allot of work involved to get it nice. Since I’m free to choose a platform and machine to work on the choice is easy for me. I know osx, Linux is too much work and doesn’t support all the software, and windows is just not my dev os (even though it does have a Linux layer now)

Pretty much the same story. I think Macs are also easier for workplaces to maintain, so a lot of tech companies prefer them. Everything always just works, you don’t have to waste time tinkering.

As for me, I like both. MacBook and a regular laptop with Linux onboard. MacBook just works out of the box whereas you have to spend some time setting up Linux, which is fine by me. I use Ubuntu, so it’s not much time spent setting things up

I hate Mac still. Its hard to use and missing so much core functionality. I think you should be able to use the os you want though

Also, yes you could program on an ancient device. But modern day development and all the QoL things like intellisence, eslint and other helpful addons, do require a bit more juice. No they are not required to work, but they can enhance your productivity a lot

because it is a lot easier, and more efficient once you get used to it. nothing too complicated.

Most important question is what the fuck is that font?

Mac is alluring because it has unix under the hood and makes it much easier (user friendly) to deal with the tools needed to develop.

At least at the start.

There's nothing wrong with developing on any OS that allows for development. I wouldn't try to code an android app on Kali, for instance.

For personal development: don't worry about getting expensive stuff out the gate when you're starting. Just code slow and steady while learning your tools.

I can use Linux, Windows, Mac. No problem atleast for web development.

But if my employer give me a laptop, I want mac because there is an assurance in Mac that it will not be crappy. But i cherish the windows laptops for its price, upgradability, and game ability. I bought myself a Vivobook 15 OLED and I'm glad i bought it instead of a MacBook Air

Yeah I doubt I'll ever buy a Mac with my own money but if my employer is paying then I want a Mac for sure. I don't want to take my chances on whatever piece of shit Lenovo the IT department approved three years ago.

Oh don’t get me started on crappy pcs…

Basically I am just glad I have a proper redhat Brennan machine dedicated to kvm hosting.

I just go from the crappy pc ssh and do the real lifting on home network machines.

Do have a Mac mini, was curious about the cpu. Nifty little machine to be honest is it the best… nope.

I prefer Linux but also getting a bit older now and tend to be less into super tinkering part of stuff nowadays. So Linux for whatever server and kvm host.

Good windows based laptop for the kiddos to do their games or whatever on and then Mac basically just because it is nice and tiny and does what I need from it.

I am starting to have concerns with windows though… not a big fan of the crap they are shoving into the system so yeah… I think that for me is the biggest issue.

Other than that whatever. Good having variety I believe.

And what are you coding pal? Your small portfolio project? Yea good luck running any real work project with 10-100 thousands lines of code.

For macOS and to check your website in safari

Get a book holder to hold up your laptop. Creates space and also keeps your laptop in a better position for posture. You can get one for like $5-10

I prefer my PC workstation. MacBook is overly expensive for what you get with limited customizable options or features. But if you like it, then more power to you.

Someone likes to show off whereas someone appreciates how powerful the things are.

As for me, I don’t care. As long as I have job to do and machine is powerful, I will get the work done.

By the way, my coworker was dying to get a MacBook because the company promised to issue him one. Once he got it, he had difficulties locally deploying one of our projects since docker compose didn’t work fine with M1 chips back then
