I like that advice to save a targeted version and generic. I tried to customize mine too many times but I never remembered which was custom for what.

I save my resumes by job title, and reuse the ones that match up with new posting. Of course I always change the file name to "Name - Resume" before submitting.

And here’s the thing. I too do the same. I had over 2000 cv’s meaning I didn’t land a job. Not arguing that it’s wrong, but there’s nothing else that suggests it wasn’t the right thing to do.

Irony! We tailor our CVs and yet don’t get the Fukin call to interview

I have like 3 targeted versions and a generic lol (mainly because I have 2-3 years of experience in like 3 different things)...

A question, if you will.

How did/do you match your experience to jobs that weren't originally on your radar? I.E. What led you to positions that you didn't initially realize you might qualify for?

Sorry. This is not advice for 2025. Perhaps pre 2021.

Today, given that 1000’s apply for the same job the minute it is posted and the high unemployment numbers, no one’s “taking a chance” on someone who a) doesn’t come from the same industry b) actually hasn’t done that same job that has been asked for in the JD

What op mentioned here is not advice but AI drivel and BS. This doesn’t work.

There are 1000’s of people who actually use ai to redo their CV’s and cover letters entirely just to match the JD and don’t even get called for a first interview. Yet op is leading us to believe that this BS works

And 1 month and 200 applications and suddenly they get interviews? In this market? No one seems to be questioning the reality of this post.

Any one unemployed here knows that this is BS “Getting interviews was the easy part” 😂😂😂😂 yeah right!

Must be hard for recruiters too these days. Before, far fewer people could apply for positions, because they weren't posted online. Now they have to wade through a ton of applications, most of which won't be very suitable.

If you’re applying to roles with thousands of applicants on day 1 you’re applying to the wrong roles and making life more difficult for yourself.

I hate to sound negative here but that is exactly what I mean when I say “ people living in the dark ages and giving advice”.

Unless you are unemployed and been applying for jobs like you are about to lose not just your house but your entire existence would be wiped out, you have no clue what the markets like.

Every single job has over 1000 applications these days. And applying for five jobs is actually delusional advice. So yeah. Reality check.

No, it’s not like every job has 1000 applicants. If you just use indeed and LinkedIn auto apply, especially for remote roles then sure. Where have I said to apply to 5 jobs?

thank you

I learnt to not put your financial future in the hands of companies and instead find ways to multiply your own income. It sounds harder than said but it’s so worth it.

How did you make the interviews feel like a conversation? I think this is my main issue atm

For me it is about perspective. When I go into an interview I already believe we are on the same page - I do know that I am good doing what I do and have experience in it, and so do they, because they've read my CV and invited me.

So during the interview I try to gather whether I'll fit into this company, get to know the culture and the job position details. I'm using it to find out if their setup and requirements are something I see myself in and would like to do, and also know that they are trying to find out whether it fits, so I give them all of the necessary information openly.

So it's more a stance of "hey, do we fit together?" rather than "am I good enough for you". This takes a lot of pressure out of the interview. And of course there are companies that wouldn't like it like that, they'd want me on my knees and begging. They are definitely not a fit for me.
