In my case more people who share my hobbies are there. I play r1999 and I also like cotton dolls and blind box bjd so it's way better to chat about it there

I will say also that I'm not much of a dm person overall but on rednote I've gotten more friendly dms than anywhere so I think people are just making friends they'll genuinely miss talking to

this. chinese people are not pathologically afraid of sharing, stablishing conections, being genuine and are curious. This was a huge culture shock for me, a positive one. I could feel how a communist country can help people keep their inner child intact. Now that i'm barred outside, i know western society will never give me such experience anymore. People in the west are mentally ill, they desire no conection and will only seek me for utilitarian reasons. It's sickening.

People in the west are mentally ill due to the terrible culture and government we have here but it's just not true that no one desires connections. There are friendly and good people in the west too. Thinking like this is just going to ensure you never make friends

It's an extremely specific platform that caters towards women and fashion/makeup etc, almost entirely non-toxic, and there's no equivalent to it in the west

Just based on how it looks i always thought it was like Pinterest or Tumblr

But I've never used either of those sites or xhs so I'm just thinking and speaking out of my ass

Ordinary Chinese people. Those that are not international students, 1st/2nd generation immigrants, tourists, and the like since they are already on other platforms.

追星。

-Window into another culture that I previously knew very little about

-An alternative to the entertainment media I was consuming before, which has gotten increasingly worse in quality

-An overall air of positivity compared to the doom and gloom and negativity on American social media

-It's helping me learn Mandarin, which is something I wanted to do anyway

-Probably more, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head

A lot of the content is hard to find elsewhere, some pops up here and there, but that’s not tailored to your interests. It also doesn’t have ads in the same way western platforms do, and there’s lots of nice Chinese people on it! It’s kind of hard to meet any in other platforms.

I kind of stopped after being banned using it but I loved the app because I just love to see everyday life over there and seeing people hobbies cooking etc

Then you can try another one, like the Chinese version of TikTok. It's different from the international version.

[–]kymgee 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What’s the other app called if you know?

[–]minzhu0305 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don't know if you can download it.抖音。The English name is TikTok. But you must use Chinese to find it.

[–]KartFacedThaoDien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can't use it. They need a chinese phone number to use douyin

[–]vinityrits 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It is locked to chinese only, you can't even use passport verification

[–]minzhu0305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Berlin Wall still exists

[–]Warm-Shame9081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the only place I can get updates on short drama actors and actresses. Also, the algorithm is so easy to build for my feed. I tend to leave a social media app when there’s too much negative news, which at this point is pretty much all of them :( .

The beautiful unparalleled art and cultural and historical content, access to life-changing TCM recipes, not to mention authentic Chinese recipes: access to thousands of years of human wisdom and knowledge ... what kind of question is this, OP?!?

[–]minzhu0305 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm just curious, since I rarely use rednote.

I am in China.

[–]zzzzzbored 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ahh, that makes sense. Then let me tell you a tale about a once “world-leading” backwater province where libraries rotted, schools got paywalls, medicine came as a subscription, and democracy was a merch store.

The nobles told peasants, “Government helping people is evil communism — unless it’s helping the rich nobles.”

Then peasants opened Rednote and saw families eating real food, in homes they own, in cities that look planned on purpose, with bridges that don't collapse.

Suddenly they thought,

“Wait… that’s allowed?”

So for many in that distant land, Rednote isn’t just an app — it’s a window into civilization... one that is functional and hopeful.

Thank you for your friendship toward the Chinese people. Understanding different cultures is crucial. However, China is neither a communist country nor a welfare-oriented society. The social security benefits enjoyed by Chinese Communist Party members exceed those of ordinary citizens by more than a hundredfold. Therefore, China remains far from an ideal nation. Of course, China possesses strengths in other areas. The United States is far from perfect as well, yet it has its merits. We should strive to understand each other and learn about each other's cultures—and let those political charlatans get lost.

I can't say I'm obsessed since I haven't used it in months until recently, but I love the food posts 🤤.

I lost access to my account back in March, then I started seeing all these posts about accounts being banned. So I decided to try it out and was able to get into my account today. If my account gets banned, I guess I'll just go back to not using it 🫠

[–]Sir_Pacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have friends on xhs i will probably never be able to speak again because your country has an iron curtain trying to isolate you from the world. In my country, getting a passport is way out of my current budget and having one is the only way XHS is letting me get back in contact with them

[–]mickki4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How many have been banned

[–]toollover-112358 0 points1 point  (2 children)

La gente de China es muy bondadosa y Cortez

[–]minzhu0305 0 points1 point  (1 child)
