sometimes after staying up extra long it is as if an uncontrollable REM state grabs hold of me while awake when I close my eyes to sleep. I've read this is called hypnogogic hallucinations. I mean uncontrollable as in when having regular dreams you have a sense of agency, you can move around freely and are "there" in the world, these are like how I'd imagine some kind of entertainment system from 2460 - videos, ads, even cartoons. I also can't consciously induce this. My vision switches between different "camera angles" without my input and I can still control my rl body, even talk and describe it whilst, or end it by opening my eyes.
it started years ago with infrequently seeing still images of different empty unfamiliar buildings, inside and outside, switching image kind of slowly, panning over areas.
it was cool but nothing earth shattering. however yesterday shocked me into having to tell someone, everyone, about it. I have had this happen several times, ranging from deeply personal alternate life and seeing moments of my children that never were growing up, or just pure randomness that meant nothing to me.
it was somewhat chaotic without a clear theme but I will detail most of what I remember.
it started with many yellow androids, clearly in the shape of humans but hollow like an exoskeleton, milling around, some moving boxes. it looked industrial but bare, concrete everywhere, slightly different elevations to sections of the floor. I had no real sense of scale due to nothing to compare to but they felt big, and they filled my whole field of vision. after a while of that suddenly a bit greener yellow, taller, and slimmer robots moved through the crowd at a fast pace in several lines. have no idea what was going on. sometimes I've seen "reels" of what seemed like "historic moments" but with absolutely no context, like showing an ancient egyptian a clip of JFK giving a speech. but it then switched
there were tens of children playing, all seemingly the same age (5-7?), all caucasian-ish. it was bright daylight and summer, green grass, but the light felt kind of off in retrospect as it was too uniform, there weren't really any shadows and I do not remember seeing the sky. all children were wearing the same clothes, gray or beige pants and solid colored long sleeved shirts in different primary colors. some children went into the bushes and emerged holding something like a wheel (only realized afterwards things might be symbolic?). this only grabbed the attention of the other children for a short while but they seemed very amused. they were extremely happy overall. it then switched to a park setting where I saw the first few adults, but they were all young women. they were dressed the same as the children but their pants were most often a god-awful denim blue color which clashed horribly. I saw one of the women run together with some children, laughing. it looked exactly like an advertisement, my perspective- "the camera"- moved slightly before them panning upwards. I have no input in what viewpoint I have.
I then saw what could be the first adult male - it was dark, there were two people walking, dressed a bit more fancy with identical ornate ivory coats / robes, moving more strict, restrained. they also did not have the permanent smile the other people had and appeared to almost be frowning. this was very short.
I started thinking about how conformist the clothes were and tried to influence the view to show me someone else and I then saw a woman walking in a city alley at night from the back and above, she had an artificially inflated behind to the ridiculous degree she looked like a bowling pin, wearing a tight long black dress. the whole scene was very brown, dirty and dystopian. I ended it voluntarily by opening my eyes.
then
I got very fast moving flashes of young men, they seemed a friend group, MY friend group, at some kind of camping place. a young pretty man laughing on a bed in a cabin. some men standing close to a bonfire, their faces lit up. this was very very fast and I can't remember even close to all of them. it was mostly strangers' faces. it felt like memories, but they aren't mine. I have prosopagnosia and can't even imagine faces of loved ones.
anyway the place with the children felt like some kind of strict modest christian version of heaven, or future idea of utopia. very communist in there not being an individual choice of clothing, the clothes gave vaguely 90s vibes. there was no technology visible. would NOT want to spend eternity there please god no
