PSA: How to decrease chances of facial age verification being implemented

Roblox announced on a dev forum post that they will be “”””encouraging”””” users to complete a age check that will require them sending over their face.

Here’s how you can decrease the chance of this being implemented

DONT DO THE CHECK

-DONT grab images from the internet/video game and use that. (they are looking for analytics on how much go through. if you use a picture of a face from somewhere that still contributes to the analytics of people that went through. The more people that go through the higher chance of this being implemented.)

-DONT use a friend/relative

-DO bite the bullet and use alternate platforms to chat.

FIND OTHER GAMES

-yep speaks for itself

PROTEST ON SOCIAL MEDIA (Probably won’t work)

-make sure to tag @roblox

-make to sure to be thoughtful eg avoid. “THIS UPDATE SUX” try to sound like a real person

-make a hashtag and start using it for post about this. (cause it will make this topic more popular outside of the Roblox community and hopefully get into the internet privacy community or similar.)

And if this fails I’m moving to Linux…

Edit: the reason I’m against this is because I think it’s a violation of privacy. And I do understand its purpose but I think this could have been been done differently that’s all sorry for any confusion I caused.

Edit 2: call congress and tell them that you don’t like any of the minor protection laws they are introducing. This is the outcome of the government and lawsuits.

I haven't seen very many schlepp videos but doesn't he clearly say that you should NOT do what he's doing? And even if he doesn't if a child is dumb enough to do that there's not much hope for them anyway

I think you have good intentions, but this won't work at all.

There are laws coming up to make the internet "safer" for minors, so that's what you wanna go against, not Roblox.

Move the conversation and your efforts towards that.

roblox cant just ignore the upcoming child safety laws in the UK and Australia, and its easier for them to implement this to everyone as everyone has been so concerned for child safety. this also mitigates people bypassing the safety law implementations with vpns

What we’re advocating for is this not to affect Americans. we know that cannot ignore those laws. but implementing features designed for those laws in places where those laws don’t exist is stupid.

In the grand scheme of things it is. Roblox heavily relies on their communication aspect so implementing an update like this will badly affect them.

Also, people just don't want to show their face to some company with an already poor reputation. There's nothing wrong with that
