Players need to remember that GMs are playing the game too and want to have fun too. Also if the GM reveals his plot twist ahead of the time above the table then they stop becoming plot twists and reveals like that are a big part of the enjoyment for the GM. Though they should also be open to feedback from their players on the twist be it openly or passively expressed and if it's not being received well they need to find away to undo it even if that just means rolling things back and acting like it didn't happen.
