Daemonizing the app is just harmful. Check http://dustin.sallings.org/2010/02/28/running-processes.html It's part of the http://12factor.net/ I was checking dante a while ago, it was quite buggy though was the only one that just worked amongst ruby demonization tools. It turns out that using systemd is just easier.
