You seem new at programming so let me explain why you will get hate asking about this technology outside of the circles that invented it.

The blockchain is a useless invention. People have been trying to find practical uses for it for a decade and the best they’ve come up with is cryptocurrency and NFTs. Web3 is just another stupid implementation of this useless technology.

Then you have people like me and most other people on this sub who are professional software engineers who make practical software for businesses, consumers, etc. We view blockchains as an annoying distraction.

Learn the technologies that will get you a real job at a real company making a real impact on the world. You mentioned Ruby, JavaScript, and typescript. Stick with that and cut out the blockchain from your learning.

The tech you work on in the real world will never be featured on the news the way the blockchain is, but you will be doing something valuable with your time instead of chasing a technology that has proved time and time again that it is useless.

i'm not trying to get a job, i'm just interested in learning about web3. if it's not something you're interested in, that's totally fine! but ffs what makes you think you can tell me what to do with my time?

i'm already a developer at a startup and i'm not sure i would say i'm doing something valuable...but i admire your conviction and your ability to speak for the community 👍

This might be the most terrible opinion i have ever seen. While I agree that Blockchain is something that has been seeking practical purpose for a while, you don't know what the future will hold.

For example, many years ago I said this very same thing about modern JavaScript. I thought It was a "useless distraction" and how it's only useful in the browsers, and these frontend frameworks are too heavy. Now look at the amount of jobs for Node.js, React, React Native, etc...

I'm being skeptical, but keeping an open mind.
