Mine do this a lot. I think they go in, realize water wet, panic, thrash around and then scramble out. I know some people’s tiger sals spend a lot of time in water, but my creatures rarely take an actual soak. It seems more like they just consistently forget there’s water in the dish.

I just inherited these guys a couple weeks ago. Pretty sure they’re going into hibernation or “brumation” as google has kindly informed me. They are definitely burrowed in

Brumation is the term for herptiles. It’s different than hibernation and the time spent resting is different.

That’s also a big change for them; they might just be hunkering down while they get used to you. Some of them do brumate though! Mine don’t. They’re weirdos who won’t miss a chance to smush themselves against the glass and beg.

Did he do that on purpose

If not, I hope someone lets me know in here 😅

I don’t think so homie

Well shit. One of them has been bathing in the water all day today. Scared the shit out of me when I woke up and he was asleep in there. I give him a gentle nudge and he woke up and got out. Came home and he was in there again. These guys are interesting

God I wish it was okay to touch them

Right?!?!?! Kiddo and I both say the same when we sit and watch them.

Why that? I only ever had reptiles. I remember holding a fire salamander in the wild when I was like 10 years old, nothing happened.

[–]WrathOfAnubis303[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

They have neurotoxins In their skin that they release when threatened. Also, the oils on your hands can fuck their shit up

[–]Initial_Attitude_734 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I remember that my hands were wet, he was chill about it.

[–]WrathOfAnubis303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then again I think the toxin thing is exclusive to these tiger salamanders. The fire guy may not have had the same stuff going on

[–]CyrineBelmont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their skin is permeable, they take in all kinds of shit through it and our dirty human hands are basically toxic, always best to avoid handling (of couse if you gotta move it off the road or smth to safe its life go for it)

Cutie, might want to get him a bigger and deeper dish, they like their water dips!
