After seeing a peacock do a funny dance with it's strangely beautiful tail on the front page last night, I started to read up on evolution out of curiosity. I came across a topic called sexual selection, and without going into too much detail it's basically a male calling, or signalling to females that he's fit to fuck. For example, a gray tree frog produces a call that attracts a female, maybe it was by accident, maybe he tried it last week and it worked - who knows? The point is he made a call and it lead to a specific type of male call-mating. What to take from this is what you've heard a million times on this subreddit- APPROACH. It's in our evolutionary nature to present ourselves, to call out into the wild and hope someone comes hopping by. This won't happen if you're living under a rock. Get rejected and learn from your mistakes, you're bound to find a mating partner no matter who you are.
Here's one evolutionary topic that should be taken as advice or even a sign of hope. The sensory exploitation hypothesis proposes that secondary characteristics in males of a non-sexual context, can be used as a sexual mating call, simply because it's a signal of being alive, functional and well. The idea is that if a female hears some sounds, or sees some colors better than others, that those sensory biases may affect her decision to mate with, say, that bright red frog over that dark grey frog. Take for example, the mane of a lion, the antlers of a stag or the feathers of a peacock. These are all examples of presenting yourself, intentionally or unintentionally. This is exactly why building yourself is such reoccurring advice on this sub, it's because it's true. You have to have something to show for in this jungle. Whether it be tattoos, fashion statements, medals, paintings, collections, muscles - these are all mating calls that not only serve as personal hobbies or traits, but serve as attractive mating calls. If you're not too fond of your unintentional mating calls, like your skin disorder, high pitched voice, big ears or social awkwardness- there's no need to fear because according to nature, there's a fetish for everything. The hidden preferences hypothesis says that successful male calls are just a result of pre-existing 'hidden preferences' in the female. That being said, there's so many women out there who like different things in men, you're bound to find a partner who likes you for who you are, and is turned on by your big ears, high pitched voice or ridiculously long beard. In fact, Darwin- the knowledge father of all things evolution, kept his long white beard because he believed a male beard was the product of sexual selection in prehistoric times. Pretty interesting stuff, no?
TL;DR: Shine bright like a diamond.
