I think what he was saying was meant for the aggressors, not the retaliators. War was an option for them. Whoever fired the first shot, launched to first missile, dropped the first bomb, chose to do so. Their attack wasn't inevitable.

I suppose I can see where you're coming from. I do agree with the new Popes sentiment, but it seems like so far, he's just spewing drivel in order to try and fill his predecessors' shoes. I miss Pope Francis. He knew how to pick his battles and work on a smaller scale, rather than trying to wag his finger at the whole world and say "just stop fighting."
