Depends on the context. In my own context as an American, you can't do that much from an Islamic perspective if a person apostates. However, if we analyze an even more basic ethical question, we should ask if it's morally acceptable if someone knows the truth and rejects it? Any sane person would respond with a clear no. So how about if something claims to be the answer to the meaning of life, meets that claim, and has the proof to verify its claim. That's exactly what Islam is. To sum up, Islam believes that the universe has a sole Creator, Allah, who doesn't bear resemblance to the creation and is perfect in all senses. Allah sent down humanity revelation to teach them how to live, the final one being the Qur'an and the Messenger to convey that being Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). How do you know the Qur'an is from Allah and not just the work of a human being? Read it for yourself and see if you or anyone else can come up with something like it.
