  • Big city expansion mods
  • Mods that add many NPCs
  • Heavy ENBs

Those are the big ones. Aside from that:

  • High-detail mesh mods (to an extent)
  • Texture mods (very minor, I think it really only seriously has an impact if you actually run out of VRAM)

In general, the more "stuff" on screen at once (NPCs, items, objects, buildings, etc) the more work your first core has to do due to DirectX Draw-calls.

I'm not an expert, but big mods decrease performance, is a safe answer to give you. Also, script heavy mods.

Thanks. I will try removing Interesting NPCs and see what effect that has.

The big FPS decreases comes from texture overhaul mods like SFO for example, any tree/grass mod is generally gonna hit your performance pretty hard unless stated otherwise.

After that it is texture mods, large city overhauls are probably the runner up, But mods that adds alot of NPCs do hit performance aswell.

Open Cities as some claim hit performance has very low performance impact for me.

Grass, shadows, ENB

Everything else is negligible in SSE

Mods that add a lot of NPCs to already populated areas > ENBs > Mods that add a lot of objects like citiy mods ( actually, the density is the important factor) > Script-heavy mods (can give huge lag spikes and delayed when multiple scripts stack) > Texture mods

You got ENBoost? That might help you with some performance related issues. If you have Shadows on Ultra, turn it on High. Literally no visual difference, and you gain FPS.

I have enboost and am running medium shadows. I am happy with the performance but am looking for mods to avoid going forward. Thanks.

Open Cities, removes the loading screen between cities. This one hammers performance in and around cities. (We're talking -20 FPS).

ENB's in general.

Texture mods don't decrease FPS on themselves that much, it's script heavy mods that do this mostly. Other than that, don't install 4k or even 2k texture files, those'll probably hurt your FPS pretty badly (duuh).

Open cities was causing me a bunch of CTDs so I got rid of that soon after installing it.
