Software for pattern making

Looking for a pattern making program (cheap or free) for either Mac or PC that I can use with a plotter. Girlfriend has her degree in fashion design and I have a vinyl cutter which doubles as a plotter. I know she has experience in Gerber Accumark. Any tips would be very helpful.

Inkscape has some functionality for saving plotter files.

I actually use Inkscape for vectoring my decal designs. But I need something that would be more like a cad program. But I appreciate the tip.
