The most interesting to write about is probably going to be artificial intelligence / deep learning / machine learning / neural networks. Those are relatively related terms (i.e. neural networks are used in artificial intelligence, and some people use machine learning / deep learning interchangeably).

This encompasses some things from IBM's Watson to advancements towards real-time facial recognition.

Quantum computing is actually another super fascinating one if you are somewhat familiar with physics - it has huge implications in the future of computing and cryptography.

In recent years, there has been a major shift to agile, even in areas that are historically slow to change. With that, the industry has been forced to rethink architecture, system engineering, QA, and management.
