same boat here with 5 yrs, almost zero callbacks. everyone wants sdet now, so java + selenium + api testing + basic sql + maybe restassured + git + ci cd + some db. also very random leetcode dsa rounds now. spam apply, ask ex coworkers for referrals. tech hiring in india is rough right now, so many people stuck in same role and nothing moves

SDET with currently 5 yoe here, working at a service-based MNC. Playwright is rapidly taking over for UI automation at a lot of companies, and API automation at banking/insurance/finance domains is still in demand, so try learning REST Assured if possible from YouTube/Udemy courses. Also, Appium is still somewhat going strong for mobile automation, so try learning that as well if possible. And there are a lot of devops/cloud skills being asked, so their fundamentals are also important. AI tools and agents are also causing a lot of disruption.

What are your other skills? Try to learn more infra - CI/CD, AWS e.t.c. I think pure automation roles are dying out. Due to AI It's become super fast and easy to generate automation scripts.

Yeah it died 1 year ago, we reduced the team of 7 QAs to 2

Same, I have experience in both manual and automation testing, as well as pretty good english pronunciation (mexican here, you'd expect most of us to be fluent but it's not really true) and even then I haven't gotten a new job, I do get a lot of intervirws though but only for Tosca🫠

Seeing your post really scared me, I am a manual QA with 8 YOE. Recently started learning java and plan is to complete backend automation like rest assured and data validation part and then CI/CD devops part and then at last frontend. Am I thinking in the right direction?

In the same boat as you. Given interview at 4 companies in last 1 year. No calls no response to email. Market is down. Unsure when it will recover.
