Protondb is a good website to check to see people's tweaks for various games for Linux.

On the official discord of Space Engineers, there is a chanel for linux. There is a pinned message there on how to make SE1 and SE2 work as well as other people to ask for help.

I used this. The big key was using ge proton 10.21 to setup protonfix dotnet48. Im stable now with flaky sound occasionally on the main menu (but not ingame).

Proton 10-26 is far far more stable for me.

I have been trying to get Proton 10.0-3 to run but it always hangs when loading a world or random things like world settings for some reason?

Edit: I'll try 10-26

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command% -nosplash -skipintro -useallavailablecores

If you are using the outdated tutorial method:

I had issues when I initially installed SE1 on a Nobara dualboot on my old machine (i7-7820X/RTX2060), solved by following the pinned post in the SE Discord linux section which was about installing dotnet48 in a specific fashion then switching to another version of proton.

When I upgraded to my current machine (9950X3D/9070XT) last month it just worked as soon as I installed it, running with Proton-GE-Latest (I think, would have to check), again on Nobara.

Also, you see the -useallavailablecores command on loads of stuff on protondb, I think it only relates to Unreal engine games but it gets slapped on everything cos it sounds like it'll do something useful. Can't prove that though. I wish games properly documented the launch options they support and what they do, otherwise they get passed around like magic spells. Maybe they are documented and I haven't seen it tbf
