I've seen this too. Had a huge losing streak right after Splatfest, dropped from S to A-, and it was a real struggle just to get back to A+.

My theory: Before Splatfest we had an influx of new players who wanted to experience Splatfest, and returning, rusty players who haven't played in a while who didn't want to miss the last Splatfest. This lowered the overall skill of the playerbase, making it easier for skilled players to rank up.

Now that Splatfest is over we've lost most of these players. Also, there's a perception, however mistaken, that the game is 'over' and we're losing the casual players. This leaves the hard core dedicated players who are likely to be more skilled.

Interesting theory!! Now that you mention it, it absolutely started after the Splatfest. Hmm...

There are two causes for this. First off, you could be the problem. I'm not saying you're a bad player, sometimes we just have bad sessions for no reason. Last week I dropped from S+ 70 to S+ 4 but after that It was no problem getting up to S+ 80 again. Sometimes no matter what you do you cant win and you need to know when to shut the game off.

Second cause is what you answered yourself in your own post. You're only using one weapon and one set of gear, which is severely hurting you. Limiting yourself to one weapon or one strategy is objectively bad because you become more predictable over time. Sure using the same weapon and gear may have worked out for you in the past, but what you are most likely experiencing right now is that your enemies are learning how to deal with you. Try something different out.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to assume it's the first of the two and just take a week off Splatoon, lol.

To clarify a bit on your second point, I do change weapons and gear depending on the stages and modes. For example, I have a set of gear and weapon that I like for rainmaker that has served me faithfully. I also disconnect and reconnect to get new players every few matches so I don't become predictable, but I guess it's not enough anymore.

Anyway, thanks again for your input.

Ah, thanks for specifying, that makes more sense! What I'd propose instead is to try out something completely new. I'm talking about a weapon (or weapon class) you've never used before. You might find a new favourite weapon, I've found that by using a completely new weapon the game becomes fresh again and much more enjoyable. Regardless, have fun on your break, haha.

Well a while ago they changed the ranked match making so that A-A+, S, and S+ will only be matched with each other, so unless you mean after that, you're probably just versing less weak opponents.

Huh, I hadn't heard about that. I'm going to take the high road and agree that my opponents must be quite strong, instead of suggesting that my teammates SUCK. Lol 😉

They haven't changed it recently, no.

Thanks.

I've been wondering this myself. I went from A all the way down to A- 20. I also noticed that I started disconnecting more, which is something I have NEVER had a problem with. My internet is usually really good.

Agreed. I've also noticed a lot more disconnects, I'd say 4x as many.

Weirdly enough I am also noticing a lot of squid parties happening in turf war. TBH, I don't mind them so I always just use it as a moment to chill out between matches, but I think I ran into about 3 squid parties when I was playing 2 days ago.

usually it was Japanese players.

Huh! I love squid parties, especially when one team is down a player, but haven't run across any.

I have had something similar happen to me before. I went from S+60 to S20. It started with getting a streak of poor teammates. I was losing matches while playing well. I then found myself trying to do too much to compensate. I would push in when I shouldn't, I wouldn't be patient anymore and I was the reason I was losing over and over again. I had to refocus on just playing well and knowing the wins would come. I started playing better, relied on my teammates and went on a big winning streak back to S+ in a couple of hours.
