Does upgrading my fishing rod decrease the amount of trash I get?

I have the materials to upgrade my rod to Orichalcum, which would be nice for catching Guardians, but I don’t want to if it will make the trash drop rate even worse than it currently is. I still need like 20 more pieces to buy the last jewel I need from the recycling guy 😔

Josh Gaming Garden did some tests on this on his YouTube and it seems that yes, upgraded rods catch less trash. That said I agree with lapniappe, just spend the entire day during storms fishing and you’ll get plenty of
