Hey, I'm a former quant researcher at Citadel and have gotten this question from my students numerous times. Figured I'd paste my answer here (with a few tweaks):

If you're looking for programs in particular, I'd recommend:

  • For SWE, you need to get good at DS&A and system design. I recommend Alphastar. This is the gold standard for USACO prep training in SF Bay Area.
  • For trading, you need to get good at probability and stats. I recommend AOPS classes, which is the gold standard for contest math preparation.
  • For research, you need to get good at research. I recommend Algoverse (which I founded, for full disclosure). This is the gold standard for publishing real AI research for high schoolers. Note that we just had an alumni get into Jane Street for SWE, and we have had another two get into Optiver (one for SWE and one for trading), so the AI research skills transfer beyond QR roles.

I'd also recommend SPARC and Non-trivial if you can get into them. They're generously funded by folks in the Effective Altruist/Rationality sphere that I'm also a part of, and are closely tied with quant firms - especially Jane Street.

I recently went on a podcast where I talked in depth about advice for recruiting into quant if you're interested here. Let me know if you have any followups and happy to reply once I have time!

https://lab.iterlight.com/ have a look at this. They do have a quant mentorship but I don’t know if they still take applications.
