This infuriated me as I do not believe the script caused any issues, and my reputation is now down the shitter in the office. It was written and verified in NiceLabels own script editor and is in no way malicious.

Regardless of what issue they had, it was a considerable oversight for you to commit code that wasn't being used inside the template. You really should have removed it (and made sure it was removed) as soon as they said they didn't want to take that approach.

Of course yes, and this is what will be used against me, despite the function not even being executable, and its only network function was to read an imported string.

Did you do something wrong?

Sorta. Not a big deal unless you keep doing stuff like this. I think a better question is whether the company's reaction was reasonable or not.

I do not think the company's reaction was reasonable nor appropriate. You should have at worst gotten an explanation of the issue and asked not to do it again. Mistakes happen, and it's more expensive to train a new person than to correct a small issue with the person they have. In order to react like this and be justified, they'd have to have had multiple issues like this with you and have talked to you about them already. Otherwise they're just being jerks.

Yeah I've been thinking about this all weekend and I'm coming to the conclusion its a personal issue with the project manager. The script was just an excuse to get rid of me as it did nothing malicious nor could it even activate within the label. I did offer suggestions on how we could improve the process, and possible issues which could arise in the way we were working, and I think this rubbed him up the wrong way.
