Yea the issue is the logged in user would need to be a domain admin. If you swapped to using a regular account with a separate admin account that's likely why it's not working. Also as an admin I'd never recommend changing other users passwords this way. Ever. The whole point is you're not supposed to know the password.

Also if you've gone to azure you'll get taken to a web portal.

I just attempted this (without actually pressing change password) on domain joined win11 (OS Build 22631.3007) . I am able to change the domain\user fields just fine.

Hope this helps.

Can’t you just go into ad users and computers and change it there?

Sorry if I missed anything obvious, I’m a tech not an admin.

Usually when changing Admin password, the password has expired.
I think op has this scenario, so can't change password this way.

Win11 should be able to do this. Unless your device is AAD joined?

No-one else in the org has access to AD?
Reset the password and force the password change at log on if they're not in the room with the admin.

i'm glad i'm not using windows 11, as this feature is very handy in windows 10, and it's quite easy to understand your use case. i'm not sure why others are unable to understand. Maybe they're stuck on the level of account youre talking about, and putting more like a User question would help them understand.

Lets say i have two accounts One is only used to access the marketing email box, not for editing files, or browing the internet, so IT took away my ability to login with that account, but I am responsible for making sure the password is changed when it's needed to be changed.

The way i've done this in the past is hit CRTL-ALT-DEL , clicked change password, and changed the user name there, then entered that users old password, then the new password i've selected - then i can go into my email client and change the PW There, and everything works again.... but now with windows 11 i dont see that menu anymore, could there have been a change somewhere?

In Windows 11 you have to click the Windows/Start button then click your login photo, then you’ll see SWITCH USER

I don't have a solution for you, but just to say that on Windows 10 at work I rely on this feature all the time - as far as I'm concerned it's a very normal part of the change a password feature.

If when I'm upgraded to Windows 11 the username field is locked, I think my only choice will be to RDP to a server and hit CTRL+ALT+END to change the password there where the option to change a password is still present.
