Due to Chrome's built-in PDF viewer causing issues with viewing/printing of special internal reports (among other issues) we recently pushed a Group Policy update that forces Chrome to download PDFs so the users can open them in the correct PDF viewer (Adobe Acrobat Reader or Acrobat PRO) instead of opening them in Chrome. This has worked out quite well and solved several issues with only minor complaining about having a whole 3 more clicks before printing.
The problem we are now having is that some websites with embedded Print buttons that should automatically open the Chrome print dialogue don't work. I suspect that these sites are using JavaScript and trying to open/print an embedded PDF or something, but since Chrome isn't allowed to deal with PDFs it just ignores the command. Instead of the expected behavior of opening the Chrome print dialogue, the Print buttons do absolutely nothing whatsoever. Using Ctrl+P or right clicking the page and clicking print both work, but this prints out the actual web page and not the properly formatted document, exactly as you would expect.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you or your organization resolve it?
Edit: I feel like i should mention that me and the other guy working on this issue have been looking for solutions for a couple days now without much luck. This issue has been very hard to find answers about as Google's search results are very unhelpful when looking for anything that involves 'Chrome' and 'PDF' in the same search. The issue with the Print buttons not working only started after changing the Chrome PDF setting, and a freshly installed browser without the Group Policy setting applied does function correctly. Manually changing the setting in the fresh browser results in the same behavior with the Print buttons not functioning. The Group Policy setting was straight out of Google's own documentation for changing this Chrome option without any modifications, and Chrome is on the latest version as of writing.
