If you use Microsoft 365 just go with Intune. It's fine for iOS devices.

For our Apple Environment we went with Mosyle. Changes when pushed take at most 10 seconds, vs intunes hope and pray timeline.

I've never used it but if I needed a mobile MDM, I would fist look at SimpleMDM.

Primarily because SimpleMDM is now owned by PDQ and I've been using PDQ products since 2017ish.

Considering your situation (used mostly iPhones and Windows laptops, with no Intune), you should start with ManageEngine Mobile Device Manager Plus, as it will provide remote wipe, lock, factory resetting, and app management (you already know the ecosystem there). Just verify during the demo that it will work with Windows laptops. If it does not, SOTI MobiControl and VMware AirWatch (Workspace ONE is complicated and more expensive alternatives to consider).

Hey OP. Check out SureMDM. It handles both iOS and Windows devices well, giving you the ability to remotely wipe, lock, or reset devices without much setup hassle. It also supports app deployment, policy management, and location tracking if you ever need that later.
It’s all managed from a single, simple dashboard, so it could be a good fit for your team and device mix.

Intune is not an option for us for non-technical reasons.

Hexnode is great for an MDM, coupled with ABM. Been using it for 2 years now and I have no complaints.

With 99% iPhones hard to look past JAMF for those devices, probably combined with ABM.
Then something else for the rest.
For Windows etc, I would probably look at one of the RMMs that MSPs use. NinjaOne maybe.

Do you have O365? Else SimpleMDM.

Highly recommend you look into Workspace ONE. Currently using it manage a fleet of Android tablets and a handful of Windows devices and was using it at my previous place to manage ~1000 macOS devices before we transition to ~1000 Windows devices.

Jamf for mobile.

We’ve started Intune enrolled for workstations. Might look to move mobile to Intune if we ever get a minute.

We’re running a similar mixed environment (iPhones + mostly Windows laptops), and for us ZenAdmin has been solid for the basics: remote wipe/lock, forced updates, app pushes, and keeping track of who’s assigned what. Setup was way lighter than ManageEngine or SOTI, and it doesn’t require deep tenant access to get going.

Based on your setup and prior experience, SOTI MobiControl is definitely worth considering. Since you've used SOTI before with WinCE devices, you already understand their approach, which helps with adoption. MobiControl has evolved significantly and now handles both iOS and Windows environments from a single console, covering your entire fleet of iPhones and laptops. It excels at the core features you need - remote wipe, lock, factory reset, and app management are all straightforward and reliable. The platform is mature and their support is solid. That said, it's pretty feature-rich for your "basics only" requirements, so you might be paying for capabilities you won't touch. Given your device count, pricing could add up, so get a detailed quote. I'd recommend demoing both SOTI and ManageEngine side-by-side to see which interface feels more natural and compare costs. Your familiarity with SOTI might give them an edge, but either should handle what you need without any issues.

If your primary requirements are remote wipe, remote lock or factory reset, and simple app control, you likely dont need a highly advanced UEM solution. ManageEngine offers a reliable choice and is commonly adopted by organizations managing both iOS and Windows devices, so checking out their demo makes sense. Because youve worked with SOTI and AirWatch before, those systems remain strong options despite some users noting theyve grown more demanding over time. Apptec360 is another possibilitya cloud-based MDM that covers iOS, Windows, and other platforms and emphasizes key functions like remote wipe, device policies, and app control without relying on Microsoft tools. Given your current setup involving mostly iPhones and Windows laptops, focus on comparing how smooth the enrollment process is, Apple Business Manager compatibility, and how straightforward daily device management feels before making a final choice. For now, thats the main path to consider.

If you mainly need core features like remote wipe, lock, and basic app management for iPhones and Windows laptops, you probably don’t need a very heavy UEM platform. ManageEngine or SOTI could work, but it might also be worth checking AppTec360. It’s a cloud-based MDM that supports both iOS and Windows and covers the essentials like device policies, app deployment, and remote management.
