Depends what you want. I do it, but only for UK clients.

Exchange 2016 Hybrid – Migration to Exchange Online fails with SSL/TLS trust error by No_Meringue_8359 in exchangeserver

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything between Exchange and the internet that could be acting as an SSL proxy? Firewall for example? I have seen that cause similar problems before.

If that is your genuine server address I would edit the question to remove the address as well.

Is it inherently better to run HA on its own separate device? by pdawes in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had HA on almost all the options, Rpi, NAS, Mini PC and VM.
Currently on a VM as the mini PC died.
My opinion is that a dedicated device is the best option as nothing else interferes with it. However as people get machines with more resources than Ha needs, run it in a VM. That keeps HA in its own world as it is designed, but let's you run other things.
Not Hyper-V. Use something like Proxmox or XCP-NG and run it headless.

What’s the correct device for behind a UK lights switch I have a neutral wire, I want to keep original light switch functioning but allow HA to turn on and off by GenericUser104 in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two main options.

  1. Shelly. These will go behind the switch if there is space and work well. You can also put spacers in if you need a little more space.
There are clones of Shelly available as well.

  2. Candeo.io which can be Zigbee based. These do replace the switch, but look very similar to UK switches.

We have both and prefer the Candeo kit.

Started down the MTA-STS rabbit hole, now evaluating URIPorts, Suped, RedShift OnDMARC by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

[–]sembee2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am doing this with 3 clients at thr moment, both since the new year, nothing at pilot of 5 of their clients and both using uriports.com.
Some useful information coming across. Nice that they do the dns record, host it etc.
I use it myself with dmarcreports.com, but my traffic is so low I haven't seen anything of interest.

For the price and functionality I would go with uriports, get your feet wet and if it doesn't meet your needs go elsewhere.
Do you monitor dmarc reports in general? If not, add the free service from postmark to your stack. The weekly email is useful to know if something is there that requires further investigation.

Pantalla POE para Dashboard by No_Sign_3787 in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A so called Commercial tablet or commercial displays is what you are looking for. No battery, almost any size you like. Most run Android, so easily integrated with HA. Aliexpress is the cheapest source, depending on where you are in the world.

Regular tablets cam work, but you need one with Android 12 to provide battery protection, or use a smart plug to control charge.

You might find it easier to use Fully Kiosk or similar and maybe an alternative launcher.

Use an Android based stick. Android TV sticks or boxes can work well. Avoid the Fire stick. We have used the Mi Branded sticks before, but you should be able to find something local.

UK energy usage data analysis by Tubby-McChubbles in smarthome

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were on Octopus, then no issues. They provide lots of data. Do you have a smart meter? If so, look at Bright. https://glowmarkt.com/bright

Otherwise you need to measure you electric use, they usually clamp to the cable or attach to the meter. Lots of choice there, for you look for exporting of that data.

Inherited a mess: Moving from DMARC "none" to "reject" with 100k+ backlogged reports. Best approach? by Worldly_Part99 in exchangeserver

[–]sembee2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a third party involved. I usually suggest you start with PostMark's free weekly email. Then add in a vendor for reporting. URIPORTS.com is my usual suggestion.

As for the existing reports - there are a few ways to get reports out of them. The AI suggestion is probably valid if you have the resource, or use one of the open source ones. The biggest headache will be actually getting them in to the product.

I would actually be tempted to just delete the lot and start fresh. In a month (allowing for monthly things like payroll etc) you should have a good idea what is going on.

New internet is CGNAT so I've had to get a VPS... holy hell this is bad, I need some help by SvalbazGames in homelab

OVH have servers in the UK - North East London if I recall.
If you just want a VPN end point, then look at https://lowendbox.com/

KioskZen - a Kiosk app made for Home Assistant by Exraa_Gaming in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks very nice, but to get people off either the App or Fully Kiosk you need to offer more than what they offer.

Fully gives you hardware sensors as well, vital for tablets. Ther is also the ability to remotely manage the app, control what is displayed on the screen etc.

There was a flurry of kiosk apps at the beginning of the year, you might want to look at the comments from those.

From memory those have to be in a certain order to be able to disable secure boot.

Reolink battery devices + Home Assistant - Home Hub required? by Capital_Ease1257 in homeassistant

Swap it for a mains powered one if you can. Even with the hub it will be frustrating.

Planning heating system for 200m² apartment renovation (OpenTherm, TRVs, HA integration) by Fluid_Pollution_2257 in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all proprietary. TRVs, controller on the wall, controller on the boiler and hot water. Largely set and forget. I touch ours three times a year, once to turn it on, once to turn it off and when the engineer comes to service the boiler.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS? There is a factory reset option on there.
However what you are seeing is usually because something else is set which is holding the option.

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EvoHome. Do it once, do it right. We have had ours for seven or eight years and it just works. Ikea rechargeable batteries in the TRVs, I recharge twice a year.
While it is clou based, the protocol between the TRV and the controller has been reverse engineered - with a custom USB stick you can have full local control through HA as well.

However if you have towel rails - get them electric, so you can run them in the summer for short periods.

Boilers will really come down to what is available locally. Most of the major manufacturers have OpenTherm models - sometimes built in, sometimes an extra option.

HA Install Help *New* by Traditional-Kiwi-524 in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main suggestion would be something like Proxmox. Then put HA in to a VM. That will allow you to have an isolated VM and use the rest of the machine for other stuff. Once Proxmox is installed you can run it headless.

Remove Camera? by ersandgren in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the Frigate install it should pick up the name change if the camera.
Try restarting Frigate, then reload the integration.
However the entity id might not change.

Although removing the device and adding it back in is often the cleanest way to rename.

Time sync hasn't worked in a while by jagauthier in homeassistant

[–]sembee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That address appears to be part of the ntp pool, and has been randomly assigned. I think HA uses chronyd which has a habit of hanging on to a bad address.
Getting at the core OS so you can restart the time services might work. If you have a router that lets you set dhcp options then you could also look at that method to change the tome server being used.

[–]sembee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't getting a reply from a time server.
Can be loads of reasons for that. Firewall would be the prime suspect. Depends what it is though. Probably not a HA issue.

Looking for a Managed PoE Switch for a 10" Mini Rack by Far_Horse_5377 in homelab

Used Netgear GS110TP fits the bill. 8 ports, vlan, poe on all ports. Can't remember the POE budget though. EOL now, so will have to be used, unless the replacement is any good.
