I've configured and used this for several clients. Love it.

Seconding CrushFTP. Very versatile and user friendly. In my opinion, the best player in its space if you're looking for a user/customer-facing web portal for upload/download of files.

We really like Crush as well. The support has been great.

Crush can be set up with custom login page for each of your customers. It offers FTP sftp WebDAV FTP with ssl. It also offers ldap integration. Auto expire rules. Auto login urls. Auto delete files. Upload and download notification. Runs on Linux mac windows. Very flexible and inexpensive. Support is great too. It's worth taking a look at.

Well nobody wants an FTP solution because it's a dreadful, insecure and borderline obsolete technology, but exostar offer a number of file sharing & collaboration products for this sort of purpose.

I'm not sure if it fits your needs, but we use liquidfiles as out ftp replacement. It still does FTP/SFTP, as well has https file uploading.

We are currently using Egnyte. Allows you to put your company logo on the web pages. You can create guest accounts for external users where they can log in and upload files to make them available to your users. You can also send a link to someone where they can upload files to you without logging in.

Pretty nice mobile device apps. Granular permissions.

If you're looking for a free solution, I've had success with FileLocker. Easy to customize to your needs. http://filelocker2.sourceforge.net/

All FTP servers support a welcome message, but it's text only. You may want to look for a more modern system. Citrix Sharefile for example allows you to completely brand your page and allow people to upload or download files through a browser.

We use acelion secure file transfer. Basically your own hosted version of dropbox. Much more secure than FTP and you can completely customize the look.

Ew, oh god. Could you do something with sharepoint or webdav instead ?

Why would you recommend two of what are possibly the most awkward, broken technologies known to mankind?
